I suspect that few will recall Enge was the firs Czechoslovakian driver to race in Formula 1. (briefly) After having worked his way up the ranks of F3 as a teammate of current BMW-Sauber F1 driver Nick Heidfeld, Enge signed on as a Jordan Grand Prix test driver in 2000.
In the fall of 2001 Enge did a deal with Prost Grand Prix for a similar testing role prior to making his Formula 1 racing debut when subbing for the injured Luciano Burti. After several spectacular crashes, the cash strapped Alain Prost declined to retain Enge’s services for the following season…
In 2002 Enge returned to the International F3000 series with Arden and was the dominant force that season. Unfortunately Enge was stripped of the F3000 Championship after failing a drug test in Hungary. Thus handing the title over to series runner-up Sebastian Bourdais…
Enge then struggled to revive his tarnished racing career by jumping to the Indy Racing League prior to racing sports cars for David Richards…
