So, just who is Robert Nearn and why all of the fuss over him, eh? Well he’s an aspiring racer whom I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying his company over the past few years.
And Robert just doesn’t putt about the local race tracks; he’s a very accomplished driver who’s raced all of the major endurance events around the globe! Robert has primarily driven Porsche 911 RSR GT3’s in both the American Le Mans Series and Grand Am. He’s driven in the Rolex 24, 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Heurs du Man and Suzuka 1000K, etc. with stints aboard a Porsche GT1 and Saleen S7R.
Robert last competed regularly as a “Hired Gun” in 2006. Running the full ALMS season in GT2 Porsches, Beginning the year with TRG (The Racer’s Group) before switching to Synergy Racing for the remaining events; He ran a limited schedule in 2007 with the Pratt & Miller team in Grand Am.
Recently I learned that he’ll be aboard one of the Pratt & Miller’s GT Pontiac’s for this years Rolex 24 at Daytona. Robert will be part of a three driver line-up for car #06. Asking Robert how he thought he’d fair, his pre-race prognosis appears to be correct, with Robert reporting during practice; “We’re struggling a little at the moment, we're carrying more weight than the Porsches and Mazdas and it's killing us on the banking.”
