So last week, Team Willie, nee Williams F1 announced what was probably the worst kept secret – that 2010 GP2 Champion Pastor Maldonado would replace ’09 GP2 champion Nico Hulkenberg, as ‘Rubino’s (Barrichello) teammate at the cash-starved Grove Constructor, as Maldonado has access to liquid gold from his country’s PDVSA.National Oil Company. Hmm? Isn’t that the same sponsor that E.J. “What,, me worry?” viso runs in IndyCars...
Thus the question is where does the Incredible Hulk (Hulkenberg) who’s been stocking up on new long sleeve work shirts go now? As he’s already stated he AIN’T drivin’ NO STINKIN’ HRT-Cosworth... As Hispania appears to be set towards becoming somewhat Team Willie’s ‘lil Seester, a la Toro Rosso and Red Bull, albeit Hispania has to pay for its Williams rear-ends next year...
Thus with the FIA issuing their “Offical” 2011 Formula One Entry list, there were officially 10-seat’s listed as TBA: Renault, (1) Williams, (1) Force India, (2)) Scuderia Toro rosso (2) HRT, (2)
and Virgin. (2)
Obviously the top-3 teams would be Renault, Force India and Toro rosso, although I’m expecting Vitaly Petrov to remain at le Reggie in 2011 – especially since he brought a reputed $15m to the party this year, Renault still needs funding and Hulkenberg is without backing...
Force India could dump both its current drivers and go with an all Mercedes line-up of newly crowned DTM Champion Paul di Resta and Hmm? A German youngster named Nico replacing the German Sutil?
Or Scuderia Toro Rosso could snap the ‘Hulkster up, although they reputedly announced during the season that they were content with their current drivers, which just leaves Hispania and Virgin – but once again Murussia Virgin Racing is asking for somebody to shill out $5.0m for Lucas di Grassi’s seat, as surely they’ll be retaining The Glockster, nee Timo glock, eh?
And it would be a shame to lose The Hulkster’s skill set from Formula 1 – as rumour suggests Team Willie has options upon the lad’s services... I know it would be considered as a downgrade to slog about the Caboose in an ungainly Hispania, but wouldn’t it be better to remain in F1 then to simply disappear into the abyss?
