Known as the proverbial "Red Headed Step-sister;" Err Red Bull's 'lil 'Seester, Scuderia Toro Rosso has failed to flatter lately, albeit "Deeter Majestik" (Dietrich Mateschitz) did give the nod to Helmet Marco to call-up Daniel Ricciardo - much to team-mate Vergne's disgust, from the Faenza-based team as Mark 'Handlebarz Webber's replacement this year, whilst Ricciardo's seat was filled by a virtual unknown: 19yr old Russian rookie Daniil Kvyat, an interesting choice since most F1 Pundits felt that surely the seat would go to Portugal's Antonio Felix da Costa instead, who Red Bull have thrown a lifeline by signing him as their "Simulator Jockey;" Err Test/Reserve Driver alongside Sebastian Buemi for 2014...
Yet one could say that Kvyat's hiring is
somewhat predicated upon the forthcoming Russian Grand Prix in Sochi this
October and hence 'Ol Deeter seeks to capitalize upon cracking the once mighty
Soviet Union marketplace with his Energy Drinks, eh?
Biggest change for 2014 - along with its
provocative front nose is Toro Rosso's switchover to becoming an Renault customer
this season, giving the Red Bull teams some synergies since they'll both be
running the same power units, as I fondly recall Austin Bureau Chief 'Claudio
denoting the two Red Bull cars at last
year's USGP as the Big Bulls and the 'lil Bulls; Hya!
As team leader Jean-Eric Vergne, now in his
third Formula 1 season will be expected to push the 'lil Bulls farther up the
grid, whilst rookie teammate Kvyat, who was runner-up in the 2012
European Renault 2.0 series and is the reigning GP3 champion, which I believe
makes him the first driver to jump directly from GP3 into Formula 1. As the
Rooskie' teenager is known to be fast and thus, will be hoping to show off his
pace during his debutant F1 season, especially in his Homeland...
