While Yuhs gotta feel for Rocky Moran, Jr.
who's waited forever to drive in his home race, and was set to make his IndyCar
debut at Long Beach, Moran unfortunately broke his thumb in Friday practice in
a collision with Carlos Munoz and with just 45mins warning on Saturday, Conor
Daly got 'Thee Call from Dale Coyne...
Noblesville, Indiana's Conor Daly, son of
ex-Formula 1 and IndyCar racer Derek Daly was at Long Beach originally on 2X
Seater chauffer duties, and after getting the call from Dale whilst buttering a
bagel, handed it off to Dario Franchitti saying he'd gotten a ride and had to
GO!
Daly drove a very smart race and got multiple "shout Outs" during the
broadcast, especially with 'Ol 'R, aka Robin Miller saying how impressed the
team and its engineer Michael Cannon were
with the Kid, as they'd finally gotten somebody with enough speed to give them
some real Data!
Conor finished 17th and probably the icing on
the cake was passing somebody ON-track named James Jakes; not to mention being
ahead of Will Power! (who uncharacteristically finished 20th) As let that sink
in a moment, since Jakes is the Dude who brought Stairlifts full 'O Moolah to
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports for its second seat after Daly had had a very
impressive winter test for them...
UPDATE
Although I missed the first hour of Trackside
Tuesday night, I did tune-in for the first time this year to Hour-2 and heard
the opinion of 'Curty Cavin on where
Conor Daly may land a ride for this year's Indy 500...
Thus, like IndyCar's oldest Blogger Geo.
Phillips; Hya! I'll throw my two pesos into the mix, as I'd agree that Daly
needs as much seat time as possible - and a multiple race outing at Dale Coyne
would be far better over a One-off' at Sam Schmidt this May, especially since
there really isn't any pressure at Dale Coyne Racing (DCR) after running
Francesco Floppa, Carlos
Huertas, Rocky Moran, Jr. and now Rodolfo Gonzalez
at Barber, which unfortunately smacks of
a lack of Dinero to fund the team...
As here's more news upon Gonzalez, a Formula 1 test
driver and GP2 racer who's set to make his IndyCar debut this weekend in Birmingham,
AL. As hopefully he'll have better luck than other Venezuelan drivers, i.e.;
E.J. "What, Me Worry?" Viso and the Wanderin' Milka, aka Milka
Duno...
