Recently, on a rainy Wednesday morning in
Nofendersville, awoke to the news that Audi was quitting Le Mans and the World
Endurance Championship (WEC) at the end of the current season.
As the news was somewhat startling, since Le
Mans, a la the Indianapolis 500 is the Sports Car crown jewel and has
predominantly been Audi's playground over the past two decades.
And although the move seems somewhat tied to
the nefarious VW Diesel Gate scandal, with parent company Volkswagen having
just received approval of its $14.7b, as in Billion! Court Settlement for
tampering with emission testing results...
With the perceived savings of $100m per year,
in reality, while the PR Spin tries warbling on 'bout the future technology of
silent and clean transportation. One must ponder how much was left for Audi to
gain after thirteen victories in the sport's top prototype category? Especially
with Seester' brand Porsche having beaten Quattro Rings the past two years at Circuit de la
Sarthe. Not to mention an apparent push to eliminate diesels...
